How open and edit VTF FileS?

Hi guys!

Ill try to open or edit the new VTF files! But no PlugIn or VTFEdit can open the new VTF 1.5 format!?

ANY infos how to change textures? Open, edit, export or import?

I've been having the same problem, none of the public tools are updated to handle 7.5
It would be helpful if the released a compiling & decompiling tool for VTF 7.5

I got it by using the command-line tool provided by Valve instead. XP or lower, start "Run" and type in "cmd" and hit enter. Vista and newer just type in "cmd" in the search box and press enter. Now, type in

Code:

"%sourcesdk%\..\..\common\alien swarm\bin\vtf2tga.exe" -i (path to your *.vtf file)"

Change (path to your *.vtf file) above to the full path of the file's whereabouts. If it contains spaces in the name, like "C:\Documents and Settings\test.vtf", make sure to surround the path with quotes (or you can do DOCUME~1, but no-one really does THAT anymore!).

Sorry I didn't see this thread sooner.

If you use a hex editor (I use HxD) and open up the .vtf, you'll see a byte that reads 05 very close to the start of the file. Change this 05 to 04, save, and you're all set. This sets the effective version of the .vtf from 7.5 to 7.4 and should not really affect anything.

On a side note, AS can handle non-7.5 .vtfs just fine if you override its originals.
