annoying error in halflife!!! please respond!

i hav a serious problem, when ever i try to put on the HEV suit it freezes and it is really irratating because it crashes certain mods for halflife aswell. PLEASE POST SOME SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO FIX THIS! thankyou

windows xp
pentium 4 cpu
2.66 ghz
ATI RADEON 9250

ERROR: SV_STARTSOUND: VOLUME=510
RUNTIME ERROR!
program files/steam/steamapps/username/halflife/hl.exe
R6025- pure virtual function call
