credit card purchase was declined. Why?

I was trying to buy JC2 but i encountered a problem i never faced before, I contact my credit card company, they said no problem on the card.

We are unable to complete your recent order under the account xxxxx, as your credit card purchase was declined. For a list of reasons that a credit card purchase placed on Steam is commonly declined, visit http://support.steampowered.com/cgi-...hp?p_faqid=429.

You attempted to purchase the following items:
Just Cause 2
JC2 DLC - Bull's Eye Assault Rifle
JC2 DLC - Chevalier Classic
JC2 DLC - Rico's Signature Gun

What country are you in? I'm from Australia and I'm getting this error too when trying to pre-purchase Worms Reloaded.

well i thought someone might faced the problems, I never faced it when i bought other games like TF2 Borderlands etc. thought its a steam problem right now.

Singapore by the way, and i contacted my card company, no problem on their side.

at the same time i m figuring out how to use steam support. first time using it, heard it was first class support, let see about it.

try paying via paypal..

it works.. creditcard > paypal > Valve = succes
creditcard > valve = fail...

Same problem here, but i can via paypal.
ewen though my card is useable acroos the internet.

EDIT : Useing paypal on a daily basis.
buy games, movies, various content online via paypal
never had a single problem..

used paypal once, had to cancel my CC because of it (got all this random stuff charged to my card rightafter I used paypal), very insecure way of paying for stuff.

Also getting CC declined. from asutralia. Just tried buying star trek online wouldnt let me.

my analogy would be prolly steam having problem billing people right now... due too ummm just cause 2 have 50% discount. I'll just wait for their support to reply.

I had this problem once, during the Black Friday sale. I had to make another account and gift the game to myself from there. The problems is related to your account, not the card, if it's the same one I had. It should go away by itself in a couple of days.

I also got a CC declined a few hours ago, was gonna try again later today.
It did fail almost immediately after clicking Purchase.

I am in South Africa, and I was trying to preorder Worms Reloaded.

mine didnt fail immediately its more like [working...] for a few seconds and pop up the message declined... now i feel less worried. I just sad that i couldnt start swinging like spiderman in justcause, i tried the demo it was pretty awesome *sadface

Most likely Valve's overzealous fraud protection has kicked in. This has been happening a lot lately, even when there are no problems with your cards. All you can do is to contact support and have them reset your account.
