Project Seed - Custom Campaign


Hello everybody, we are actually working on an Alien Swarm custom campaign, Project Seed.

Who's working:
- Lirian (steam ID RedNoah41516): creator of the maps and leader of the project, also drawing down some concepts for large map areas.
- Sagara (steam ID Stg_Sousuke_Sagara): working on the plot and also on the map plans, he seems to have more ideas then me also he is learning how to use Hammer to support me in our map creations.
- steve19 (steam ID: idk yet): getting new ideas for situations and maps. (translation: the easy work )

Note: English isn't our mother language so forgive us if you find something strange in our grammar construction of the phrases ^^;

Our history: so, we are finally here. We never made a mod, Sagara just never opened a 3D editor, so this is a great opportunity for us in the world of modding. Lirian (who is writing you atm) has worked for 1 - 2 months with UDK and a lot of video tutorials, so he already knows something about mapping. We hope to recruit one of our real life mate that plays Alien Swarm too (oh yes we are all real life friends ^^) because 3 is better than 2!

We hope you enjoy our work, we are really motivated, and we promise our best results! Any comment and idea is welcome, also notice us if you see something strange in the vid, maybe it's a bug that I didn't find

Storyline - Intro:
Year 2057. Humanity has almost destroyed and worn-out most of their home: the Earth. A part of the humanity was sent into the galaxy with a fleet with the objective to find another suitable planet for the humanity: this operation was named Project Seed.
What you are now going to read are the last words of the commander of the PS009 vessel, one of the Project Seed ships, while all the crew was being warned by a level 5 red alert: "Attention! Something has crashed into our shields and it is spreading! Follow the emergency instructions, I repeat, follow the emergen.. *radio noises*". Moments after the message was arrived to the military escort ship Leviathan, a dropship with a special marine operation squad was heading to PS009 for an investigation. Approaching the ship, the dropship receives no communications from the ship, only some IA messeges for the landing maneuvers. Docked to the Dock02, the marines are ready to start the investigation.

Looks great and love the starting room with the drop ship. I would suggest making the level bigger if that isn't just a temp mission complete point and also more spawns. Looked far too easy to solo when it should be really difficult to solo and challenging for group play.

This is just the intro of the campaign, basically a welcome to the campaign for a new player: he sees our design style, the rooms, etc. We are planning to make this campaign a survival where you have 2 possibilities: run or defend.

This is just a intro map, with lot of details, that tries to explain the situation. Next maps will be large arenas where small corridors will head to big rooms where you will have decide if stay there and barricate yourselft from the Swarm or just run asap to the end.

As the only one creator of this map, let's just stay that I am personally testing the Source engine, as this is my first map with Hammer editor. My other companion is actually on holiday and even he has a computer, whatever he will be testing, will be all offline so for now only my results are shown; maybe he is having great ideas for big arenas, who knows? let's hope in him too

edit: damn I just knew that the vid has been blocked due to the music in Germany... no worries, I will upload another one with only ingame sounds when the map will be finished

i think you need to place info_node in the map to allow swarms to follow you =).

Okay, I tested it real fast with bots. "Real fast", because the map is pretty short and easy. On the plus side, nice use of ambient sounds and effects.

I experienced a slight performance drop in the mess hall; I assume the heavy use of lighs is causing this. Also, there seems to be something wrong with pathfinding, because my bots have a hard time following me around.

I noticed the problem with the bots too, I'll look for a way to fix it
