Steam - Howto disable compatibility mode?

I just exited Steam and a Windows popup informed me that Windows had automatically applied compatibility settings for Steam. Whenever I want to start Steam now, it tells me that it should not be run in compatibility mode and that I should disable this mode in the file settings of Steam.

However there are no compatiblity settings active when checking Steam.exe -> Properties -> Compatibility. So where does Windows 7 store compatibility settings which were applied automatically by Windows itself?

I disabled the program compatibility assistent service but that didn't solve the problem. You have to remove the registry entry, too.
