In-game Steam overlay not working with retail copy?

Hi guys,

Bought a retail copy of Mini Ninjas not too long ago, and thought I'd add it to my Steam library so I can use chat, etc while playing. Problem is, I added it to my library, but for some reason the Steam overlay doesn't show up when I use Shift + Tab (I changed the in game settings so neither key is used). Not had this problem when adding any other non-Steam games to my library before... Any ideas?

Steam Overlay doesn't work with every retail game. Actually I know only one game and it's Blur.
