Anyone else having this problem? I get this when I put in my Authentication Code to register. My friends just got the game too and it worked fine for them.

What do I do?

Could be a firewall preventing the game from sending/recieving what it's supposed to.

Hmm, despite that message, my account was still created at each stage. Try logging into their website. It worked for me. I now have a working account on Steam.

Can't create new account.

I think over 500 000 people bought the game and are frying up the servers by trying to register too many people at once.

But my friends did it a few seconds later and it was fine for them. I restarted my computer, didn't work.
