How do you get Team Fortress 2 without Steam

Everytime, I come to play a game for 30 minutes or so I have to wait 30 minutes while Steam updates something again or it checks my install for 15 fifteen minutes before letting me play the game I purchased.

So where can you get Team Fortress 2 without having to put up with all the Steam crap.

Regards

Mike

You have to wait 30 minutes for Steam updates? Are you running a computer from the 90's?

Your choices are Steam or get a Xbox360.

You need to log into Steam more often. TF2 is supported by its dev team and gets constant tweaks and huge packs of new content, so it updates quite frequently, just log in more often to keep on top of the updates.

If you didnt get updates, you wouldn't be able to connect to any servers. In the game properties, you can ask for it to not be updated if you really want to.

The only way to play the PC version of TF2 requires you to use it along with Steam. As Crazyfoolgaf indicated, you need to download the updates to play the game. Even if you had the choice not to use Steam, you would still have to keep the game updated to play online.

Start up steam when you get home or before starting dinner? let it all update then play? I assume you dont ahve cable or dsl... in the country or something? Just plan ahead! Valve supporting thier product so long after release is a truly welcome thing!

Even if there was a TF2 version without "steam crap" as you say you are still forced to download all the pathes manually to play multiplayer. If you want to play singleplayer you are doing it wrong.

So Think before you post.

it's like patches. If ya want to keep on playing with other ppl ya need the latest version (or atleast most of the other ppl). Patches will have to be downloaded to your pc and installed. At Steam the games auto-update themselves so ya always got the latest version.

Thread served its purpose. I think we shall make busta999 choose between a better pc and automatic updates or manually download each and every patch

I don't think you'd even be able to run TF2 properly if mere Steam updates take that long for you. Get a better internet connection or something.

Buy retail, and install. Once completed. WAIT for it to update. Otherwise the only options are stated above on non-continuously updated platforms.
