Asus ARES is the best there is, followed by a 5970. Nvidia stopped having the fastest cards over 2 years ago.

As far as reccomended? You can't go wrong with an ATI 5850 or an Nvidia 460GTX. Both those cards can essentially max out most PC games at HD resolutions and can be had for $200.

What are you talking about? Nvidia still has the single most powerful graphics card available, the GTX 480. As far a dual GPU's go, yes ATI has a more powerful card for the time. It is also not about recommending what you like or want its about recommending whats best for someone in a specific price range and what they what out of it.

OP what are your system specs including PSU watts and amps on 12v+ rail, and if their are multiple rails.

A regular 5870 will do you just fine, but even that is around $500 - $550. Prices this generation are a little ridiculous. Last generation, you could get a 4870 X2 (dual GPU's) for around the same price when it was first released. I got a 4870 X2 in May of 09 for $399.

Calm down. The OP didn't post budget until post #5.

Handy price lookup at Newegg:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007709%204019&IsN odeId=1&name=$300%20-%20$400

It looks like you can get an XFX 5870 for $389.99. According to currency converters that's about £302.

If you look at the OP's question, I answered it perfectly. The ARES and 5970 are both single cards, regardless of how many GPU's are on a single PCB. The OP only asked what the most powerful graphics card is, you apparently don't like the truth.

If you actually read my post, I gave 2 good recommendations from both card manufacturers before the OP even gave any details. Calm down Hammer Legion Member.

I think the point was the strongest gpu out is what he is asking. Mind you are right that the gtx 480 is the strongest single gpu card out its not the strongest solution out that you can buy as a single card at the moment.
