I don't have the game yet, but from experience, I would assume that only xinput devices (i.e. the Xbox 360 Controller and maybe two or three clones) are supported.

Other than byuing an xinput compatible controller there are several other solution, the proper search term would be:
http://www.google.com/search?q=xinput+emulator

Games for Windows LIVE titles support the Xbox 360 controller when they have native controller support so this is the controller you want to have really. All the controller settings in-game are geared towards this controller so you will struggle to get your new controller to work

Very true ... getting an Xbox 360 controller is the smartest thing you can do if you want perfect controller support in most current PC games.

If you're not a fan of the Xbox 360 controller (I like it myself) or just don't want to pay $50 or whatever for it, you can always look into getting alternatives. I think Logitech have a few that do XInput, like the Logitech F310.

JOYTOKEY. Works for all games. Its a free small program easy to use. I use it for SF and MAME/Virtual Pinball.

Just google Joytokey and Im sure it will come up. You imput the keys to your controller. Its very easy and works very well.
So for example the W key would be up on your controller and Z would be down etc. You don't have to manual imput, it will prompt you on what you want to match the key to and just move the stick or press the button.
Give it a try.
