the mission packs in Quake 1&2
I have sent several emails to support and got the same computer responses, I wonder if there are real people there? I can not get the mission packs (2 for Quake AND 2 FOR Quake 2. I will describe what happens to them as the two for Quake act different than the 2 for Quake 2
Quake all the little box's come up and I get a small white with black printing box the says quake is starting. Then in some very low resolution says GLquake.exe encountered an error and must close. windows will look for a solution you close the box and are returned to your game list Quake 2 would load and start you could hit Esc key and start the game from the start and save and play. If you die or close the game and attempt to use a saved game you got the error message readlevel function pointer have moved. Now of late when you attempt to start the game at the entry level you get the error message and it no longer lets you play or save as it did. when it does the save game gets the error message. I would like to know if others have this kind of things on those 4 mission packs and if any one ever figured out how to fix them without messi9ing up steam. I went to rogue.com and there was just a note saying all emails should be sent to this address which you clicked on it and got a standard email form. I never did get a reply. There are many here who are not just good players but good computer persons as well. I am neither one. so if People respond to this with "can't be fixed live with it" I can do that In fact I would have still bought the Quake package knowing this. its just they look kind of interesting and a good way to learn how to play and set up your keyboard (if that is possible). So will some wiser computer person than i take pity on a new guy who just loves the Quake series and answer if they even CAN be fixed to run as support has not helped. thanks to all who even bothered to read this but you all must have been new at one time Madgamer |

Did you search these forums at all? There have been plenty of threads about this. These are old executables and they're not really supported anymore. Thankfully, unlike a lot of older games where we just have to deal with it, id released to source code to the engines themselves and there are plenty of community-made alternative executables. MenaceInc even put together two fool-proof unofficial patches for the Steam versions which should get everything working for you without you needing to do anything other than clicking through an installer.

not a computer person
I found out how to deal with quake and I am not interested in making bunches of changes in my steam games because I am not a computer wiz.
I searched but could not find anything I could understand. the company that developed them is gone . The ones for quake 2 load run and play and save just fine. but then at some point I load a saved game and get the readlevel1 game function markers have moved error. I was hoping someone connected with steam could email me a step by step process on how to solve this problem. You know we all are not young guys with lots of computer knowledge. In the past I have messed up my system so bad a total reinstall was necessary. I wish I was as good as some of these guys and I read there threads about how they did this and how they di that and am amazed. Have a good day Madgamer2 |

I just wanted to know if anyone else had that particular problem where you click on a saved game and get the big orange screen and the message: readlevel 1 game function pointers have moved. I also have read where some players have used some of the "Can't go wrong" and things went wrong or it did not work or it made things worse. was just hoping to find a civil helpful person on the form who would perchance have a solution I could understand, I guess not madgamer2 |

The Quake 1 problem is very common. Go to your Nvidia control panel (if it's the common case) and enable extension limit. If that isn't the problem, you could run the expansions without using GLQuake by launching Quake 1 with parameters e.g. -rogue.
