Thumbs up How to unlock early?

Ok seeing as I found a way to unlock early and a lot of people are angry, I'm gonna take one for the team and explain it.

Download this http://usaip.eu/en/USAIP.pbk
this is a proxy server thing which I found the link to on - http://techpp.com/2009/07/09/top-5-free-vpn-clients/ under the 8th point so you can verify it's legit.

Run the file, select any United States connection and log in with account and password as 'demo'

Change steam download servers region to any United States server (steam>settings>download+voice>region)

Restart Steam* - it should ask you to login again
--game changes from preload to play and is Unlocked!

Almost noone on multiplayer however atm.

You might want to save this text if you can read it as steam won't like this being posted.

Power to the people etc.

you can more than likely get a banned account for doing this, so i havent done it for any other game nor do i intend to.
edit: i just got a message from you as well on this as soon as i posted, how did that happen?

i pm'd you before this thread, its highly unlikely they'll ban the account because they'd have no way of verifying that you aren't from the US or were in the US at that point in time..

I'll just wait a couple more hours. Not the end of the world.

Smells risky, I'll wait it out!

Couldn't you use this to buy games cheaper than the area you live in? That's the kinda thing valve would jump on...

The easier way to do that is just to gift it, but you have to know the guy and trust paypal and that Steed.

Fair enough if some want to wait tbh, makes it better when you can play in a way, shame I didn't try this yesterday or Tuesday or whatever tho ;-).

This is how i look at it, doing this is risky, if they don't start doing something about people abusing this then having any kind of staggered region release in the future is kinda pointless as it can be bypassed easily by everyone, thus hurting the publishers or whatever..

Personally I think that having a worldwide release should be one of the perks of digital downloads but publishers don't seem to agree on this.. I am not going to risk my 40~ games on steam just to play a game 8 hours earlier :P

edit: I am all for giving people the choice to do it or not though

Well if they see someone logging in to your account with an IP from outside the US and 10 seconds later you login with an American IP than Steam has a reasonable doubt that you share your account with someone, which is reason to get your account banned.
Just saying

Could be a proxy for all they know though, they wouldn't know which one was the real ip.

None of the people on the forums are the ones behind the scenes.
