Problems with Half_life 2 content.gcf

Okay, so the news page for Smod redux says to extract the maps from my Half life 2 content.gcf. However, when I open up Half life 2 content.gcf with Gcfscape, the particular files that I need to copy into smodredux/maps, are listed as being incomplete. If I try to extract on of these incomplete files to my maps folder, and then load that map in game, the map won't load. However, all of the non-problem maps, that don't look wrong in Smod after the may 26th update, are complete.

What the hell is going on!?

See the Mod Fix thread.

You need to download the patch for SMOD Redux. SMOD is currently in post #2. I think the patch for Redux is in the first link.

You'll also want to use the second Download link near the top of post #1 - the one that says it's for half-life 2 content.gcf\maps (it also includes the \bin and \scenes folders). Decompress the file to a temporary location, then copy the maps folder into SMOD's maps folder.

EDIT - You might also want to copy the file maplist.txt from the downloaded half-life 2\content into the SMOD folder.

When Valve updated HL2 and Episode One to the new engine, they also updated some of the maps with HDR lighting. These few maps are located in a different gcf and are incompatible with the old version of SMOD. The old SMOD compatible HDR-less maps are not downloaded any more because for HL2 and Episode One they are no longer needed.

But people who installed HL2 and/or Episode One before the engine update, still have these old maps in the GCFs. And such a gcf with all old maps is in gorpie's thread.

Btw the file size between old and new gcf (where maps are missing) doesn't differ (or at least it didn't last time I checked), because the space for the old maps is (was) still reserved. Maybe Valve fixed this in the meantime, IDK. However if you compress an old and a new GCF, you will notice a size difference.
