TF2 dedicated server help?
Hello to one and all. I am fairly sure that this has been covered, however, searching did not come up with the results I need, so I decided a new thread is a good way to tackle this. I have a problem currently with a dedicated server I am attempting to run, that has me at wits end. I have tried the srcds way, a supposedly more complex path that has yielded better results (or till I get stuck), and the Team Fortress 2 Dedicated Server tool (which is easier, but alot more frustrating). Both have their own independent problem(s), which has rendered me frustrated, and leave me to ask the SPUF for help.
PROBLEMS: 1)The most common problem, that I have found when looking for the answer. There appears to be no good one answer for this question. My question is that I am running a server, and I alone seem to be able to join. My friends see it as a non responding server, but I DO have all the current options available to me, used. sv_lan 0 is enabled, which SHOULD make the server an internet based game, but yet it won't show up in the internet browser listing, no matter what I do. Help? 2)I understand RCon and all, but what is the easiest way to change maps? Without rtv, I am lost as to how to do this in a dedicated server. 3)The TF2 Dedicated server tool seems to be a deceptively easy tool at first glance. start it up, choose a game type, give it a name, a RCon pass, is it VAC secure, so on. Even the following steps available are fairly straight forward. I have figured out how to add custom maps to the rotation listings, and have corrected it to the map rotation I would like. HOWEVER, is there any way for you to join a dedicated server run by the steam tool AND join in for fun on your new shiny server? So far, Steam wants to deny me access to the game as it has a validation error, and rejects me. Help? 4)Trying to connect through console does NOT help any of my friends. Is there a better way to join, if game info will never respond past "server not responding"? Or am I just SOL? Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! **Quick edit** All ports are forwarded correctly for TF2, and what i could dig up for the dedicated server as well. Will find exact ports opened and list them later. DS is hard and only has very basic functions, thus the myriad of 3rd party plug-ins available to make it easier to admin.
You should probably try the SDS forum. --------------------------------------------- oops, looks like a mod already moved this thread to DS forum!! Last edited by not you: 09-26-2010 at 07:00 PM. |

at problem 2) The easiest way to change map and ingame settings would be by installing Mani Admin Plugin on your server, so that you can use the admin commands to change map (@rcon changelevel de_dust2) At problem 3) i have this answer, read my post http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=1442446 should give you some help. (steam validation rejected error, A fault made my steam) At problem 4) again, is your router opened (port 27015 UPD and TCP) Thats my solution to most of the problems, though i am not truely sure that all of them are correct. EDIT: The ports variate as you can choose them youselfs, though standard is 27015 Last edited by Tranquilizer1: 09-27-2010 at 04:14 AM. Reason: Missing info |

2)Will look into possibility of plugins, once I get the server up and running properly. 3)Added the .txt file, with TF2's 440, and will test later if I still get rejected. 4)Yes, again, ports are forwarded correctly. Still leaves me at square one, for the most part. will make an edit with a picture of the server.cfg in a bit. **Edit**pictures of the server.cfg, in hopes of the problem being there. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...servercfg1.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...servercfg2.jpg Last edited by blaile: 09-27-2010 at 07:08 AM. Number 1 is my primary problem. I have all my ports up to date, I also have my ports for my computer from my router turned off entirely through DMZ. I don't know the problem, and it's quite frustrating to try'n fix it.
