When I start up NyxQuest the developers logo flashes and then I get a blank screen. My computer becomes unresponsive and I have to restart my laptop in order to be able to regain control of my system. It won't even respond to Alt+F4 to close the game window. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, running it without Steam, and even looked up to see if there's a new update to my video card (there isn't).
Other peculiarities I've noticed, when I click my power button and the options menu(standby/restart/etc) shows up, the game music starts playing and the graphics show up a bit weird. When I click cancel, my computer becomes unresponsive again. ![]() My system is a bit old, here are the stats: Dell Inspiron E1505 | Windows XP Genuine Intel CPU T2300 1.66GHZ/Dual Core 2GB RAM ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 | 400MHz | 256MB DirectX 9.0c I would really like to play this game. Should've played the demo first before buying. Oh well. Any help is greatly appreciated!

[Fixed] + Suggestion
Trying to make this game work for me has been quite an ordeal and not very good for my anger management. I went through the support wiki and tried different suggestions, no dice. The problem persisted. In my last attempt I loaded the game, pressed the power button to force the game to load for me. It did, but movements were very slow. It took several seconds to be able to click on 'Options' and several minutes to disable fullscreen view and set graphics quality to low. That last thing did it for me. The game was no longer unresponsive. Yay.
My system meets the minimum requirements but can't handle the default high quality graphics setting. I suggest somehow making it possible to set the game settings before loading the game. That would be great. Now, I get to play. Yay. |

There is System.cfg file that you can manually edit to change the quality of the graphics. Sometimes this can help you start the game... make sure the System.cfg (usually on My Docs/Over the Top Games/NyxQuest) file has:
*QUALITY 0 or *QUALITY 1 We are working on a fix for this. All information about the system, OS and graphic card is very helpful. Thanks. Rob. http://www.overthetopgames.com |
