Budget gamer build help?
Im looking to build a pc for a friend, using newegg. The budget is $500, needs case,mb,hd,gfx,dvdr,ram,cpu,psu i think i covered the major parts, already have os and mouse and keyboard and lcd.

Here is one someone else did a lil while back, now updated a lil.. (Lazy today)

Still working on this.. I agree, that 4870 will rock. It just won't do dx 11, but for a cheap build it's a great bargan. However, for $2.00 more I'd go with a corsair psu:

you could go with the GTS 250, but I think the HD 4870 is faster.

HD4870 kick's GTS250 butt, I have a GTS250 in another pc and it performs about the same as the HD3870 in this pc.. I also have 4890 in my main rig big difference and the 4890 is really only a better 4870 chip with higher clock's

http://bit.ly/a6BnMy <- for $20 more you can have a card with more overclocking headroom, less power usage, cooler, quieter and DX11 support.
Should break the bank

If it were me, I would still go for the 4870. |
