Steam Client Beta Available

There's a new Steam Beta client available. To access the Beta, go to File -> Settings. On the Account tab press the Change... button to open the Beta Participation dialog. Then Select Beta Update, and allow Steam to restart itself. Here are the specific changes:

10/15/2010

- Adding a system to allow users to recommend and discuss games with their friends. For more details, click here
- Adding 'Recommended For You' page in the Steam Store.
- Updating store pages to show stats and launch options for games you own.
- updated Speex and JPEG libraries

10/18/2010

- Fix a memory leak when toggling the game viewed in the details view
- Fix a crash when receiving and merging updated data for stats/achievements in some situations
- Fix sometimes failing to fully recognize a game as exited for certain launcher app setups

10/19/2010

- Fixed navigating to game guides in the store
- Fix Steam Cloud bug where users who converted from the demo to the full version of Everyday Genius: SquareLogic, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, or Jolly Rover would have their progress reverted to the progress they made in the demo while opted into the beta
- Fixed community chat bug

10/21/2010

- Fixed displaying Steam Service dialog under OSX

10/25/2010

- Fixed a couple rare crashes and added more instrumentation around potential memory corruption

10/28/2010

- Fixed a few rare crashes observed in the beta

10/29/2010

- Fixed Steam API logging

11/01/2010

- Fixed not being able to right-click on OSX

11/02/2010

- OSX: improve tooltips support
- OSX: add installer support for an upcoming game release

11/03/2010

- In preparation for the client release, we've temporarily disabled recommendations. They'll be back soon, along with some improvements to the recommendation algorithms based on the feedback we've gathered

Grand! It's awesome that we can get our hands(or palms and fingers) on those features!

ED: Looks like you cannot recommend games to people via Steam Community yet.
(Link that prompts about recommending games to friends sends you to game list on your SC profile)

ED2: It's up on SC now!

I'm going to recommend all my friends should play "Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble."

Even better, I'll recommend everyone "Ricochet," no offense.

I'd prefer if the "You already own this game, Play Now" bar was above the content area. With my set up, I can't see it without scrolling down and I'm not really interested in looking at screenshots for the 8000th time.

You're just recommending to your friends, so its them you'll be spamming, not the whole community

I guess you can't recommend a game you don't own, that puts a hole in my evil plans, but it makes sense. That just means I'll have to spam my friends recommendations of "Ricochet" until they buy it.

Looks like there's an issue with the beta where the feature may not appear on the community until you've clicked on the "COMMUNITY" button at the top of the client.

May I ask if the updated audio codecs have anything to do with improving the intermittent mic issues on Mac OS X?

You can remove them, just go to recommendation page for that game.
Find your recommendations and near the date you should be able to find "delete".
