My Fallout: New Vegas crashes every time I try to play it. Here is my story.
I bought my game from Best Buy because I had a few gift certificates to burn. I know from another friend who bought the game at retail, that you have to setup a steam account to play, he mostly plays 360 but recently got a nice computer and never had a steam account. I already have one, and when I got home, in Steam went to "Games->Activate product on Steam..." put in the CD-Key and it started downloading. It finished, and I right clicked on "Play Game" it loads another window like the cover of the box, I click "Play" it crashes and says Fallout has stopped working. I have reinstalled the game twice now. It wont let me install from the disk at all, it always forces it to download it. I have updated my videocard drivers. I even put the video settings down to low (it defaulted to high) to see if that would work and it does not. I have also tried validating the install, and it goes from 66% to 100% and says "1 files failed to validate and will be reacquired." I then try to reinstall, and it says the same thing, at the same percentage. This is the Error I am getting; Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: FalloutNV.exe Application Version: 1.0.0.240 Application Timestamp: 4c9808f2 Fault Module Name: StackHash_7dc0 Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0 Fault Module Timestamp: 00000000 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 711b0000 OS Version: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.768.3 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 7dc0 Additional Information 2: b4ee5de6a2322745523997a782b35692 Additional Information 3: 027b Additional Information 4: 277e19c30fbd5f6bb531ec9e027c37c3 Thanks for any help! Steam just updated, and I can now play the game. You can lock and/or delete this thread.

Well I started messing around with stuff. I turned off Spyware doctor, and I turned off windows Sidebar, and tried fallout again. That fixed the problem it seems, because it loads right up now.

I had the same problem, and I fixed it, but first the list of things I tried:
Reinstalling Windows (7 64 bit). Removing all mods. Updating DirectX (fresh install). Updating my GPU drivers (fresh install). Updating Java (fresh install). Redownloading (from steam) and reinstalling the entire game (fresh install). Removing the validation log (and broken file) and reaquiring (repeatedly - like... 12 times or something stupid). Updating everything I could possably get my hands on. Checking that codec packs were removed. Disabling the steam cloud stuff. and some other things that I forget. How did I fix it? DINPUT8.DLL. I put this file into the same folder as the executable (FalloutNV.exe/FalloutNVLauncher.exe). Suddenly the game works perfectly again. I have no clue wtf happened to it that I needed to put that file there, but it fixed the problem. How did I work it out? Borderlands and Batman:Arkham Asylum were also crashing to desktop on me and were more informative about why they were crashing (they told me there was an issue with DINPUT8.DLL and something like sltlight or something.... either way, the first file fixed it all up). So yeah.. I hope that helps someone else, but of course I don't guarentee anything. Good luck. Last edited by WishMasterMaxi: 05-20-2011 at 10:50 AM. |

"FalloutNV has stopped working" again
I been playing many many hours when I changed graphics card to an ASUS 560 Ti. First got the problem that the video settings was lost when opening the OPTIONS in the launcher. Found an explanation this was due to new videocard/driver (!). I found out that reinstalling the video drivers solved the problem and made it posible to start FallaoutNV. Needed to do this after every boot.
Then I got an update of my V7 64 bit. Video settings was now remebered but got "FalloutNV has stopped working" after PLAY and selecting a save to start from. Could play again after reinstalling the video drivers. Seems to me FalloutNV read the video setting from a location in V7 that is no longer kept persistent by Mictosoft. I can live with reinstalling the drivers but it would be nice to know if there is a permanent fix. |
