Failed to find Steam

I am trying to run Jade Empire after a long time, and it won't start. Launcher comes up fine, but neither game nor configuration work. A dialog stating "Failed to find Steam" comes up for both.
This is the only game that does this.
I am running Win7 64-bit. Any clues?

I had the same problem when trying to launch the game executable file from the Windows Explorer Game Folder.

It worked when run from within the Steam Client or the desktop icon.

Had the same problem. Lots of the issues with the game seems to be solved by running it as admin, but I don't manage to do it with the steam version. Can only launch it by using steam. So.. basically, the game doesn't work for me at least.
