Is Gimp safe to use?

Hi there!

I thought about downloading GIMP, a free editor at gimp.org

Before that, I stopped at siteadvisor to see if this site was
safe.

http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/gimp.org

People say it has viruses on it.

Is it safe at all?

It is safe. I never have had any problems with viruses etc..

Tho.. if you want to depend on http://www.siteadvisor.com 100% then you should unplug your computer from the internet =)

paint.net is a photoshop/paintshop clone. Amazing community for it too.

GIMP is a good image editor, but not as good as Photoshop.

You can safely download it.

GIMP is a popular open-source drawing program. If you don't need the absolute professional services of Photoshop, you can have this as a cost-free alternative.
Worrying about having viruses on GIMP's website is nonsense. You can then also worry about having viruses on other popular open-source projects like mozilla.org.

If you were to download Adobe Photoshop via a doubtable method like Torrent or eMule, THEN should you worry about infected installers.

No it isn't. Paint.net is a decent image editing program that I have used before with enough features most home users need to do a little photo editing. But it comes nowhere near the functionality of Photoshop, not even close.

GIMP is by the best free alternative

Nice and safe with some very cool script fu.

Maybe post this in the OT forum next time though. Last time I checked GIMP wasn't available from Steam.

It'll be safe, assuming you download it from a creditable provider.
