DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error!

Hip hip hoorray, Black Ops is released! But seems like I cannot play, lol.

Every time when I finish loading a map in MP, the game crashes (black screen) and I get that message, "DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error!" Same happens in SP when the actual gameplay is about to begin.

I have no idea what's causing this, I installed the DirectX that came with Black Ops and checked that my drivers were up to date. Here's some specs:

Intel Core2Duo E8500
Nvidia GeForce 260GTX
Asus P5K motherboard (RealTek onboard sound device)
4GB RAM
Windows XP SP3

Ain't this exciting!

I'd love some helpful suggestions.

Dont reinstall windows...

try re installing drivers/dx

I'm not gonna reinstall windows just because you said so, I have no problems in any other games.

Edit: @KillJoy, roger that, I'll try reinstalling drivers now.

There are a ton of issues with black ops right now on pc.. i would suggest again as i noted if anything try reinstalling your drivers.

but before then would just wait for a fix on the game @ its current state.

I wasn't trolling. He's still using XP, which is terrible. Most XP problems are fixed by reinstalling

Reinstalled manually DirectX and now I'm installing the few Windows updates I had waiting. This is really not too much fun *sigh* I was hoping to be lvl 5 in MP by now!

same issue here, I can play every other game even MW2 but not BO, so I find it hard to believe it's anything wrong from my side.

Nope, after installing every possible update and driver, the game still gives me the same error. Maybe a previous driver for my graphics card could work...let's see if I have the energy for it.

I can still play mw2 mp and sp, all other steam games works fine aswell, including a lot of other non-steam games, so yes this is an issue with the game.
I'm also using Win XP SP3, so I might suspect the game doesn't quite like directx 9.0c

it states that the game uses dx 9 correct? like i mention before i would wait around as there are alot of issues going on about the game itself and not your pc.

For 59.99 euro I expect a game that works almost flawlessly at the launch date, if they can't guarantee that they don't know what they are doing. I have pre-ordered a lot of games, like wow, sc2 etc, always works perfectly at launch.
This is the problem when they don't do proper beta testing before they launch a game.
