The exclusivity issue is a necessary evil for them to get their game onto XBLA. If you put as much work into the game as they did, you'd want to reach a broader audience. The only way M$ would approve is if there was something (eg. The Internets) that made a person choosing between the 360 and PC versions say "well, the 360 version has this. I think I'll pick that up." Not sure if Valve wanted the same, but they felt at least obligated to give equal exclusivity to the PC, possibly even more with the level editor.

Not saying it's good practice BTW.

As for the game being the best "for money" I fail to see how the ten dollars is not worth it yet. I can only think of two other games I bought for ten dollars that were and still are worth the price.

For those who actually wanted characters promised, they get screwed. Hurr.

You do realize the initial planned release was substantially less of a game than what came out on the 360, right?

You do realize they were always planning to do console releases if they could get make it through the approval progress, right?

They didn't waste the time or money they got. You've got serious entitlement issues, though.

I remember reading the comments that the original planned Super Meat Boy was only going to have about half the levels and bonus characters.

The amount of content in the game is absolutely ridiculous. The people complaining about "selling out" and the like are throwing their toys out of the pram - Team Meat are trying to give every single version something cool. They're trying to get heaps of people to play their game, their labour of love (because who would be an indie developer for the money?).

Gaming enthusiasts like the aforementioned are why it baffles me why ANYONE would want to get into the gaming industry with most of the fanbase being the most spoilt, overentitled, tantrum-throwing children that it is ever my displeasure to meet.

The rules are simple guys:

Is it a good game (by whatever your criteria)? Yes/No

Yes: Buy game
No: Don't

Stop inventing issues that don't exist.

^ This.

I guess Team Meat should have just made nominal improvements to the flash game, whipped up a few packs and let it rip? I guess then the children would complain about something else..

There is a ridiculous amount of content and polish that was put into what we get for $10-20. I also don't believe this will be a 'port' at least in the negative connotation. (eg: GTAIV) I doubt they would release it if it was anything other than smooth as buttah.

If they didn't have a XBLA contract, it would probably be something similar with Sony. God forbid they try to release on more than steam/pc...

JamesMichael, just don't buy the game if you've lost interest and are that much of a drama queen.

Fact of life: Every game outside of Rock-Paper-Scissors could be a lot better.

It's pretty sad how childish people are acting since they're not getting everything they ever wanted right now.. Sometimes the real world just doesn't work that way folks.

And oftentimes, there are better reasons for that than "Microsoft wants to sell more XBOXes".

Could have been different, but sony dragged their butts. It's always great to armchair quarterback it, but none of us are in their shoes.

Inconsequential, but I don't see how you could construe it as a negative when we get a substantially better product for what would probably be the same price ($10).

If a five month wait for extra development plus an extra month wait due to an exclusivity deal that enabled a better game to be made devalues the product that much, then I'd say you're a big silly.

Considering the fact that Microsoft's hand sped up the publishing end of the game by a considerable margin, there's even a chance we'd have seen it later than now had they not intervened. Super slim, but securing finances for publishing goes a loooong way towards getting a game out to the masses in a timely manner.

tl;dr - People need some perspective.

It needs to be measured and in perspective. At the end of the day the PC users will likely end up with a better product than the Xbox users simply due to the fact that they have a level editor, as opposed to just Teh Internets level portal. I own the Xbox 360 version. Am I a tad disappointed that I won't get to play Captain V and a level editor? Sure. Does it really matter that much? No, the game is still great.

Character exclusives are interesting and all, but we've already seen that Gish/Headcrab/Gooball are just slight tweaks of Gish.

The only thing PC users might be missing out on is Tim, but even then you've got Captain Viridian who will likely be just as game breaking .

Enjoy the game for what it is - it is incredibly polished, well thought out, challenging and fun. You can feel the hard work put into this game and while there are definitely some things that could undergo some minor improvement, it's all pretty inconsequential.

Just want to add, that the first teaser said that it would be WiiWare and Steam exclusive:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=re_IM7M6iWQ

It was never Steam-only exclusive.
