Hello Everyone,
*ASBI* welcomes all active AS players who enjoy an extra challenge. Our servers use Sourcemod, Metamod and Xehonk's BeyondInsane mod to feature

Is this the mod that adds beta aliens to the game? I've played a few custom servers lately, but I don't remember which ones.

Can you tell the info on everything that has changed?Specifically?
Like raised drone health to 100 instead of 40 increased drone speed etc. I've read the beyond insane mod but it only shows the update list for information on what I need to know rather then a official list. |

The large changes (that affect the difficulty) are those to the amount of aliens, their speed and to ff. If you want the exact values for some reason, read the configs. The ASBI servers are using the configs I posted in the beyondinsane thread.
I'd suggest ignoring the details and simply joining one of the ASBI servers though. Just try it yourself. Last edited by xehonk: 11-26-2010 at 07:56 PM. |

I've played the BeyondInsane mod with Katsukaze. He's done a really good job making the game as difficult as possible.
![]() With all due respect to him, it wasn't quite my cup of tea. I found myself going from Vegas with a flamer/nade launcher to Faith with a Tesla/Medigun combo; emasculated and using nerf weapons because the slightest mistake meant everyone's death. That, in itself, can suck much of the fun out of the game. I think that making existing maps harder or current enemies tougher isn't the right direction to go in. The challenge should always be balanced between both enemies and environment. In this case, it's the same scenery but now thrice as annoying. Adding new types of enemies with different attack methods or introducing deadlier environments would better serve the overall demand for antagonism. It's a good mod, but I think the addition of brutal onslaught/hardcore FF really covered the loose ends on these aspects of game difficulty. You should make new content instead of attempting to improve or amplify current conditions. That said, I would not mind playing BI again.

Honk is the creator of the BeyondInsane mod.
If you'd like to see my creation, stop by any of the BrutalCalibre servers. BI is not for everyone, you have to try it for yourself. Like anything else, if you take a negative approach, chances are you're not going to like it. I would recommend trying it out, with some friends or members of *ASBI* on hard for several hours playtime. It's where flamers are actually dangerous to use. A horde is meant to be taken by a team or skilled special weapon or tactical extra placement, ie mines, freeze nades, what have u. The speed alone will hone your enemy recognition and anticipation skills where, when u return to regulation servers it's quite a yawn for Jacob's Rest. For custom maps, there will be issues with spawn counts and increased difficulties because of the designer's intention. However, sooner or later, some *ASBI* team discovers an interesting tactic to solve the problem. Through BI, I've met far more interesting and determined gamers for 1 particular game than any other I have played. Oh and let's not forget, real tactics and proper teamwork is needed on most maps. Because of this, you get players communication more and actually talking about what they need to do rather than just saying "GO" and hoping to survive. I absolutely love the ASBI mod!
You have dediacted servers, leaderboards, clever improvements to the gameplay great challenges both tactical and skill wise and the extra achievements just rock ! You need a good team thoug. This is so amazing for experienced players, it gives the game a complete new dimension and depth. The servers can be found when using the dedicated server browser in-game. Servers are named *ASBI difficulty mod or something simular. |

I don't see the point in the "No deathcam" option. Besides that, it seems fine.
