Game Stutter and How-to-Fix!

Just finished ghostbusters (9.2 hours, all artifacts, etc..).
Very fun '3rd' movie in the franchise for fans of the movies.

I used a logitech gamepad to play through it and found it worked well for such a console/arcadey game.

I ran it on all highest settings EXCEPT soft particles turned off.
I found the game ran great for most of it, but then randomly I loaded a checkpoint one day and I found that every 5 seconds of gameplay were followed by a half second game freeze. Very frustrating and I couldnt figure out how and why it occurred.

Finally, I noticed, my 30 hz and 60 hz frame lock (vertical sync to us PC people) was turned to OFF.

When I turned either one on, the freeze is removed. Obviously I recommend using 60 hz, so you get 60 fps, but if you have a lower end PC use 30 hz refresh.

My rig:
2 x ati 4870 1gb ddr5
e6850 conroe @ 3.4
4 gb ddr2 corsair 1200 bus
x48-dq6 motherboard (gigabyte)
24" samsung 1920 x 1200 (played at res)
