Need for Speed: SHIFT 2, Yay or Nay?

The upgraded headcam view is even more visceral. Shift developer Slightly Mad Studios say it’s like comparing a hardcore flight simulator to an FPS in reference to its difference from the first game’s in-car camera, and having taken it for a quick burst around the track, it’s hard to argue.
Improved Cockpit cam? Awesome.

The days of AI drivers as simple moving obstacles on set paths are long over, and Shift 2 aims to create a living, breathing race around you, full of real rivals fully intent of stuffing you right up.
Improved AI, more aggressive mean AI? Great.

I'm happy that EA is continuing to develop the SHIFT franchise and as long as it doesn't turn into being milked for money with bad iterations then I foresee it becoming ever more popular. Love racing sims.. and SHIFT is pretty close to a SIM, especially when you start turning off Helpers and start tweaking internal car parts.

loved NFS Shift, never really played that much as I dont have a controller and the game is pretty unplayable with a keyboard.

the cockpit was already great and the game used surround sound better than anything Ive ever experienced. So yeah im looking forward to it.

Interesting article for the "Forza and GT" players.

http://www.gamesradar.com/pc/shift-2...11610531348009

Their goal for SHIFT 2 is to stay away from "bland graphics" of GT5 and Forza.

Thumbs down

first one was a good filler game to speed up the wait till GT came but now Shift 2 seems a bit pointless for me...

If bland means good, then they'll probably succeed.

Maybe it can improve on its gameplay too. The first game tried too hard to copycat GT and Forza

And this. GT5's car models and Forza 3's scenery design are awesome

Where did Shift ever try to copy GT? Making a racing sim =/= copy cat design.

Rather than simply show you the view over your dashboard, it zoomed. retracted, twisted and banked in real-time as various g-forces took their toll on your driver’s seating position.
GT hasn't really ever attempted this, Forza might have, but I doubt it.

GT5 was the biggest dissapointment of last year. It was basically a copy of GT4 with better graphics in SOME areas (hint: 800+ plus cars that looked like ). I played it for a week then got rid of it.

I agree with the director behind Shift 2, he is consistent in his argument and consentrating on what a racing fan truly wants, which isn't a load of cars just for your "collection" or 10 variations of a Honda Civic..

Shift 1 was awesome it had incredible graphics and a true sense of speed and immersion, what driving a racing car at 200 mph truly feels like. Now with double the tracks, double the cars, the headcam view, better physics and damage this game will give Forza and GT a run for their money. This is coming from a person who LOVES Forza to death and has been an avid follower of the GT series, so I am not trolling.

While technically a nice game that ran very well for me I gave up on Shift 1 about 1/2 or 3/4 of the way through. It ran great. It was just boring. IMO Shift is a PGR clone that doesn't quite make it for ME. I still play PGR3/4 but have no plans to go back to Shift ever. Maybe Shift 2 will be better but won't know until I try it. I'm at least glad to see it will no longer to be marketed as a NFS game as it is not one, any more than Shift 1 or Pro-Street ever were.

I bought NFS: Shift. The game was unplayable on many ATI cards (including mine) at launch. It took them about a month to patch it to a working state. When it was finally working, the game was ok, but not amazing. GT5 and Forza 3 are certainly better. So this is a nay. Nay ing way.

Just because the name was dropped from the title doesn't mean it's not part of the Need for Speed Franchise. Both the boxart and website would like to say hello. So would this quote:

Quote:
GamerZines: Why did you decide to drop the Need For Speed name for Shift 2?
Marcus Nilsson, Executive Producer, Shift 2: Unleashed: If you think about the Need For Speed games you've played; Hot Pursuit, Most Wanted, Underground, they're very arcadey and action-oriented. Shift is going after a different audience, a sim audience, and it's about driving cars the way they feel in real life. So to not confuse the consumer - don't take me wrong, Shift 2: Unleashed is still a Need For Speed game inside the Need For Speed family, but that family has different legs. Hot Pursuit fits the action games; Shift 2 is sim-like.
Pretty much sums it up. As for your opinion on it not being a NFS game, well thats just an opinion and nothing true about it. I guess it is possible for an opinion to be wrong. Anyway.. anyone who hates on SHIFT obviously doesn't know quality. So meh. Haters gunna hate as they say.
