Just got my steam account hijacked, quick question

Am I the only one who it's happened to recently? I never gave out any info or anything, but now I can't log in to my steam or gmail accounts. I just wanna know if it's something big, or if it's just me...

maybe but it doesn't matter.
create a ticket quickly and try to get it sorted out.
And check ur AVP(anti-virus protection) and firewall, maybe ur computer was hacked not steam alone.

alright, sent a ticket as best I could (considering I can't get any verification codes, what with my email also gone...)

Anyhow, thanks for the help, guys. I hope steam gets back to me today faster than they did last time I was in trouble, lol

'faster than they did last time'? You've been 'hacked' before? Don't take this the wrong way, but perhaps figure out what mistakes you made for this to happen twice, so it doesn't happen a third time. Or with something a little more serious.

or gmail accounts
Haven't you fixed so you can recover with SMS? They've had it for quite a long time.

Anti-Virus are really good at doing nothing. I personally don't have anti-virus program install. I treat them all like virus.

Anyway your computer has been compromised probably by a rook kit.

You either have to format your computer or try to remove it buy doing these steps.

Follow these steps and will remove 99% of the virus you encounter. It also easy to do.

Go into safe mode with networking. Press F8 when your computer start up.

Skip A and go to B if your safe mode is working.

A:
You got into safe mode but there no user interface (no icons, nothing), press ctrl-alt-del to open task manager. Under then process tab close explore.exe (highlight it and click on end process button). This will close the current explore UI.

Go to the task manager and under File -> New Task (Run). Type in explore.exe. This will start a new UI without any virus hooks. Your User Interface should now be working. Now run these programs in order.

B:
Malwarebyte and run it.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Download Combofix and run it. Combofix is very powerfull. Beware that it might destroy cause more damage than the virus. However it is the best virus remover out there. Use this with caution. Keep hitting yes when promoted.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

Than download TDSSKiller and run it. Combo fix will not remove the TDSS root kit family. That's why you need this program to do it.

http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses...?qid=208280684

If it is comes positive, remove the rook kit and RUN IT AGAIN AFTER REBOOT.

If it still in MBR you need to download hitman pro and run it. Close the ads to see the scan.

http://www.surfright.nl/en/downloads

Run TDSSKiller again after reboot to make sure there no rook kit in MBR.

All of these programs are free. With the exception of Malawarebyte you do not need to install it into your computer.

Could be related to the Gawker Media account hack that happened recently. At least, if you use the same password for everything. (Kotaku is part of Gawker. If you have a Kotaku account, you very well may have been compromised)
