Can Steam games be registered from Amazon Digital Download?

They still have Darksiders for PC as a digital download for $10(US only). Has anyone used their digital download service before? I need to know if it is customized for their service or if I will still get a key to register to Steam. It doesn't mention Steam anywhere and says you can redownload it through their client. I need word from someone who has bought this digital version through them.

Note: Amazon sells two PC versions. One is retail that is mailed to you and this is a separate priced digital download version.

I just bought the Digital Download of Mafia 2 off Amazon today and it gave me a CD Key that I was able to activate on Steam without any problems. Darksiders CD keys are also accepted on Steam: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...7480-WUSF-3601 so you shouldn't have any problems.

I would make sure it is a game that can have a CD key registered on Steam. Not all retail games can be registered to Steam.

Unless this "digital download" gives you a special Steam code?

Thank you so much for clarifying Crossfire. +rep.

It doesn't say Steam anywhere TrippleD. Though I guess it doesn't matter now that crossfire has confirmed it working on Steam for us.

Here's the page. The service US only. They are having a 75% sale on all digital downloads:

+rep for showing me this! Might finally get Mafia II.

EDIT: Velvet Assassin $5, and can be activated on Steam.

Not a problem, for other people reading this. If there is a game that you would like to purchase from Amazon's Digital Download service first make sure that your CD key is acceptable on Steam: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...7480-WUSF-3601 otherwise you will not be able to register it on your Steam account.

Not sure if they can be activated on steam though. However, they are a download version and not a retail copy.

yes, but those are for Retail keys. Amazon sell both Retail and Download copies of the same games. Question is, can those downloaded copies be activated on steam even though the retail version cannot? Or do they only specifically use Amazon's download service?
I don't quite understand what your asking, did you read my post before my last one?

They really should mention on Amazon "game requires steam to install" or something...
You are getting ahead of yourself.

If the game is on the list Crossfire posted, and the digital copy of it is on sale on Amazon, you can use the CD key you get when you buy the game from Amazon to put it on your Steam account.

I'm also interested in the Penumbra Collection. If someone buys it off amazon, please let us know whether it can be activated on Steam. I've already got Overture from the Humble Bundle, but I'm missing Black Plague and Requiem.

If we buy these games off of Amazon, and register them on steam (specifically Mafia II), and we decide to reformat or buy a new computer, will we have to re-download the game from Amazon, or from Steam?
Sorry, I'm new to this ("registering non-steam games")- and have been considering buying Mafia II only if I never have to log on Amazon again. lol

Darksiders isn't $10 on Amazon anymore. It went up to $26 for some reason even though they are still having a year-end 75% off sale.

Doesn't matter I guess since we have a second chance at $10 Darksiders right now.

If you register a CD key on Steam it stays in your Steam account forever, just like if you buy a game on Steam.
