I know the retail version of NWN2 is available for Mac, but will the Steam version work too?

My brother has a MacBook Pro, you see, and before he buys the game while it's on sale I thought I'd ask so he doesn't buy it for nothing. =P

I don't see any mention of Steam's version being compatible with the MacBook Pro.

Freyar:

In the second post there are links that point to Visual C++ redistributables. They are all outdated. The links should point to the SP1 version of these packages.

Steam will install those libraries anyway - and as far as I understand order-of-precedence rules under Windows, the version and location Steam installs those to is the version that the game will use. Since side-by-side caching under Vista and 7 don't seem to change order of precedence, favoring the system install folder over an application-specific install location, I'm not sure any of that would help. I'm open to new information that would address my concerns though.

OTOH if by some voodoo the version you download and install overrides the version installed to the application folder, then that problem is a Valve issue and they should stop trying to install a separate copy of various redistributables (e.g., .NET, VCRT20xx,VBRTs, etc.) for what seems like all 80 games or so in my Steam library, and just use the system folder installed version. Instead, and largely due to Valves architecture, I've got 4 versions of VCRT2005, 9 versions of 2008, and 3 versions of 2010. I'd be surprised if there weren't version conflicts.

Launching the Map Editor in the Tools list in Steam should now result in the NWN Toolset launching.

DM Client- ??

Isnt there supposed to be one?

Any idea how to access it?
it is supposed to be in the main NWN2 menu- it isn't.
Couldnt find it in tools either.

Am I missing something?

Glad to see that fixed.
Just a small quip, but what about the missing icon in Detail view in Steam? And the in the Profile?

The "Forums" link on the game is also missing/wrong

Thanks

I've looked into it, but I haven't found a "safe" way to get the DMC running.

Unless the Steam wrapper has broken something, nwn2main -dmc (or nwlauncher -dmc) should run the DM client.

Tested it today, with a brand new copy of NWN2 - Platinum bought from Steam and no, it doesn't work.

It works. Do it this way. Right click the game's library title in steam > properties. Under the 'general' tab which should already be open, hit "set launch options". In the box type -dmc, hit ok and run the game normally. It will run as the "DM Client Beta".

My question is, when is the DM Client getting out of "beta"?

Strange. I'll have to try it at work. When I attempted to do it at home, it locked the system up hard when I attempted to move into multiplayer.

If the whole system froze (no ctrl-alt-del response or anything), this is likely a driver or hardware problem. Did the entire system freeze or was it just the game?
