I know the retail version of NWN2 is available for Mac, but will the Steam version work too?
My brother has a MacBook Pro, you see, and before he buys the game while it's on sale I thought I'd ask so he doesn't buy it for nothing. =P |

Steam will install those libraries anyway - and as far as I understand order-of-precedence rules under Windows, the version and location Steam installs those to is the version that the game will use. Since side-by-side caching under Vista and 7 don't seem to change order of precedence, favoring the system install folder over an application-specific install location, I'm not sure any of that would help. I'm open to new information that would address my concerns though.
OTOH if by some voodoo the version you download and install overrides the version installed to the application folder, then that problem is a Valve issue and they should stop trying to install a separate copy of various redistributables (e.g., .NET, VCRT20xx,VBRTs, etc.) for what seems like all 80 games or so in my Steam library, and just use the system folder installed version. Instead, and largely due to Valves architecture, I've got 4 versions of VCRT2005, 9 versions of 2008, and 3 versions of 2010. I'd be surprised if there weren't version conflicts. Launching the Map Editor in the Tools list in Steam should now result in the NWN Toolset launching.

I've looked into it, but I haven't found a "safe" way to get the DMC running. |

Unless the Steam wrapper has broken something, nwn2main -dmc (or nwlauncher -dmc) should run the DM client.

If the whole system froze (no ctrl-alt-del response or anything), this is likely a driver or hardware problem. Did the entire system freeze or was it just the game?
