Hi,
I encountered exactly the same problem with hotel giant 2 on my computer running win7, x32. I have two displays connected to my computer.
In my case the game worked fine again when only one display is activated!
(With an ATI graphics card you can disable one screen in the Catalyst Control Center.)

Hope this could help you...

Same problem here but to fix it I right clicked on the HG2.exe file and under the compatibility tab I selected "Disable desktop composition". It seems the game does not like the Aero desktop in Windows 7.

No problems getting the game to run on W7-64. However, to any would-be buyers, please note that this game only supports two resolutions: 1280x1024 and 1024x768. There are no files to apparently edit yourself to change the resolutions.

I think if I had known that beforehand, I would not have purchased it.....

I've gifted this game to my wife's account and she keeps getting error code 80 as soon as she's trying to start the game. That's on her new notebook running Windows 7 x64.

Selecting "Disable desktop composition" didn't help at all.

I've also checked the games steam folder for required programs but couldn't get Windows Media Format 9 or something like that to install.

Any more ideas before I'm asking for a refund?

Update:
One suggestion I've found via Bing was to install the Media Feature Pack for Windows 7. Actually after my wife has installed this, the game runs just fine!

I used to have a "create device fails (d3derr_notavailable)" error, but once I changed my screen resolution to a lower one (1280x800) it would start loading and now I've changed my screen resolution to it's native one, it would load no problems.

Beware though, there is no option to change the screen resolution apart from 1280x1024 and 1024x768 (as TatankaSamoyed) has stated.

Wouldn't have purchased this if I had known the issue.
