Exclamation No Audio When Answering Cell Phone!

I purchase and downloaded Far Cry Complete last night, and after installing Far Cry 2: Fortune's Edition I attempted to play it and ran into a bizarre problem. When my character's cell phone rings, I answer it, but there is no audible voice and I am not given my next mission objective! Also, my character continues to hold the cell phone against his ear until I press the '5' key to manually put it away.

Now, the first time my character's cell phone rings, everything works fine, but after that... nothing. I started a new game, but that didn't help. Anyone else have this problem and is there a fix for it?

Here are my PC's specs:

2.60ghz AMD Athlon-II x4 620 Processor
ATi Radeon HD 5750 GFX Card
8gigs of DDR2 Dual Channel RAM
Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium
1tb HDD

I have been having the same issue on and off. Sometimes I can`t hear the caller at all, otherwise I can hear them perfectly. Either way, my missions update as if everything was normal. I just sucks that I can`t hear the speaking.

Right click on the name in the games list > Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity

Thanks for the tip. I will try it tonight.

UPDATE: Okay, I just verified all my local game files' integrity and everything checked out fine. It's gotta be a glitch or bug. Or something I have is causing a conflict with the audio, maybe? I don't know, but it's driving me nuts. I can't progress the story If I can't hear what the NPC is saying and I'm not given my next objective. Argh!

Try changing the keyboard shortcut you use to answer the phone. Personally I like the Tab key for things like that, and the same key you assign to the phone will be used for the map.
Not saying that's gonna work, but you never know. I've never had that problem.
Are you saying though that your map doesn't update with the location where the buddy wants you to meet him? What he's saying isn't as important as the actual objective, and if the map isn't updating either, I don't know what to tell you.
Pressing the Esc key will enable you to read the objective. All the buddies ever say on the phone is something like "Come meet me at so and so location" and the map updates afterward.

Thanks. I'll try that next.

Yeah, you got it. In addition to not hearing any audio when answering the cell phone, my next objective is not given in the menu or on the map. Hearing audio from the cell phone and receiving a new objective only works once after starting a new game. After that, my character will simply hold the cell to his ear indefinitely until I manually put it away. Nothing happens after I hang up, though. It's the damnedest thing.

Not really a solution but you might wanna try enabling Subtitles.

That way you can at least see if the convorsation is happening and you simply cannot hear it.

Did anything work?
Maybe try running it "as administrator" from a desktop shortcut instead of through the Steam interface?
That's just a long shot though, but I can kind of see that being a possibility.
How are the rest of your sounds in-game?

Okay, sorry for the delay in getting back to you guys. Real life overwrote my gaming life for a while.

Anyway, I tried it again and now the cell phone and mission updates seem to work okay, for the most part. Occasionally, I get a call that doesn't have any audio and my character holds the phone indefinitely 'till I put it away (like how I described before). I suspect these are the phone calls you receive from the mysterious caller with the voice distorter who gives you side missions. I haven't successfully received any of those, yet.

Glad to hear you got it working okay... sort of.
Those "voice distorter" calls come from the guy who gives you side missions at those radio towers you see on your map with a mission icon like you see at Mike's Bar or the weapons stores. But they're only available when you're not on a regular mission for UFLL or APR.
You have to physically go to the radio towers to get those missions, he doesn't just call you. After you go to a radio tower and activate a side mission, he will call you.

Ah, thanks for the heads up. That's a bit of a relief. Still, I'm wondering what those calls are for? lol

Wrong numbers? Telemarketers?

I get alot of calls every day where I don't hear anyone saying anything unless I listen for a while. It sometimes takes the auto-dialer on the other end a little while to realize someone has answered before it launches into its tele-spiel.

The point being, never give anyone in a war-torn region of Africa your real phone number.

I was getting the silent calls too at first, but I find that if you let the phone ring three or four times it doesn't happen. A sound or scripting bug maybe?
