I've had my fair share of experience with SOE, trust me. I know that they still LAUNCH good games, it's just what happens later that I don't always agree with. So I may as well play this one at launch so I can enjoy it before they try and "fix" things. =P

He could also be referring to planetside EQ II or Vanguard. All SOE games that all are on their last legs barring maybe EQII which has just stagnated since its release. Especially compared to the success of the other MMO that came out around the same time, World of Warcraft.

SOE is legendary for sell and forget MMOs that have next to no support after initial release leading to an almost immediate decline in subscriptions.

SOE has a reputation for killing its own games and it is WELL deserved.

EQII and SWG both had multiple expansions, and probably would have had a whole lot more with WOW money coming in through the door. The games were just not as accessible as WOW. I haven't played the beta but I am excited about playing this. Maybe it will be awesome maybe it will suck. Its a game.

I will prob be playing at launch as well but I know the tell tale signs of when SOE pulls support.

SOE is like the company that makes alot of little mediocre MMOs. Blizzard had the one gold mine, but I'm just tired of WoW. I need new terrain. Cata was nice and all its just. Its still wow under all the new content.

But superhero games are very tricky, my money is on Star wars or the 40k being the next new comer. Rumor is that Blizz is also making a new MMO.

They have screwed up EQ, EQII, MxO, Vanguard, and SWG. Honestly I haven't played Planetside to know how it is anymore (did a demo of it long ago).

SOE has a long history of royally screwing over any MMO they take under their roof.

That said, EQ is the best MMO I've ever played hands down (even though SOE didn't make it). EQII was ok for what it is (I like it way more than WoW). Vanguard had so much potential that it's almost painful to contemplate for long periods of time. MXO also had potential, but all support was dropped after SOE took over.

SOE has had a lot of great games under their banner, but they manage to mess them up. I've yet to play another MMO by another company that I thought wasn't utter crap. I hated WoW for so many reasons. All MMO's nowadays are either poorly executed games that feel like pathetic rehashes of Korean free-to-play games, or they go for the instant gratification model that WoW is so famous for.

I want a good MMO that was actually well thought out, has a great story/setting, has real challenge, and won't have you go from level 1 to the endgame in a half a day. Also, some consequence when you die would be nice too. I'm one of those few people that actually liked the idea of corpse runs in EQ. It meant when you royally messed up, there was a real effect felt.

Unfortunately I know that no MMO will live up to those desires. They can pump their fanbase for oh so much more money if they put in less effort, charge more, make it too easy, and try to make them buy stuff as extras that should have been in the game anyway.

planetside was, and still is, an excellent game. the expansions were not very interesting but did little to detract from the overall awesomeness. i reupped for a few months last year, and it still held my attention almost as much as it did in beta and original release in 2003.

SOE had nothing to do with the development of Vanguard, they didn't take control until 4 months after release. Vanguard was already a huge pile of fail thanks to Sigil.

As far as Planetside, it was about as much of an MMO as Global Agenda - a stretch of the term if anything. Though I remember it to be a fun game.

Granted SOE did nothing to help vanguard after launch.

They didn't make it worse, which is the allegation.

They don't improve on any of their games which is my main complaint. EQ II got a few expansions sure but that was just mostly rehashed material. More kill 20 fairies collect wings, deposit at NPC. Games need to evolve beyond just the most basic grind quests. I only had fun in EQII when my friends played it.
