Why can I not imbue my swords

everytime I talk to a blacksmith that has the imbue or whatever icon, it tries to sell my stuff! And I'm not about to sell my witcher swords for 40 bucks =P

ps - act IV sword - probably gonna buy it, but only if it's better than doing a meteorite sword. Plus - I can meteorite my silver sword yes? So I could buy the G-sword and meteorite my silver sword?

If you go to imbue and you see swords for sale, then those are the end result swords from the combining process. The rocks needed are different depending on the sword type. The square ones are for silver and the rounder ones are for steel. You can't combine types so 2 square and 1 round isn't gonna work.

Checkout the Witcher Wiki for more info on the sword crafting.

For metorite swords, when crafting you get a complete new one. So sell your old sword or store it at the Inn if you want keep it. Otherwise it will be replaced. Not true for runes they need a steel/silver sword to start off.

But the process is right either way? Runes i sell to smith along with sword, then buy back? Meteorite i just sell to smith and buy new sword?

No.. Don't sell those meteorites to the smith!

You can craft a new sword just by having those 3 different meteorites in your inventory (iirc) and you then "buy" a new sword form the smith.

Runes you just "click" to the sword, you don't need a smith for that...

O.o. I'm so confused. The trader sells swords. But he the imbued has an empty inventory. Can I not imbue my witcher stuff? So i should've kept the illegal sword?

There's no selling involved, only buying. If you have the materials then you click on the icon and there will be something to buy. If you don't have 3 meteorites or 3 runes then there will be nothing to buy.

Although at this point we're having such a hard time describing this whole process that you might as well just grab a random sword off a corpse and be done with it. In my last play through I didn't even craft any swords, I found some good enough ones out in the world and in some late quests.

best glitch ever. Stored my witcher sowrds at the inn. went to blacksmith and saw how to get my meteorite sword. bought the curvy sword, went back, got my steel sword and imbued it with 3 sun runes. yay!

then went to pick some pink genetia and ... glitch. it hought the plant was the blacksmith. Got a free meteroite sword, and the 2 blue runes I sold him. pretty cool =)

I don't think you understand the process.

Take any 3 pieces of meteorite to a blacksmith and you can buy a NEW steel Witcher sword. You can sell your old Witcher's sword if you want.

Take any 3 runes to a blacksmith and you can REPLACE your silver sword with an upgraded version.

You must find the meteorite and runes on your own. They are given as quest rewards or found on dead enemies.

You should probably read the wiki at http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/Witcher_Wiki

It explains everything about the game including swords.

Right, I got that much. What I'm saying is i went to the smith with 3 meteorite, 3 sun runes. Only steel witcher sword on back. Bought the replaced steel sword with 3 sun runes. Left. Picked ginatea in front of celinas house and THAT inventory screen had the 1000 meteorite sword in it. I only had 200 orens left after biting the 3 sun rune witcher upgrade. I still have my 3 red meteorite as dwell. I didn't have the money to buy both in any event. Yay glitch

=)

Ahhh. Well, that is cool glitch.

But I'm sure there is a plausible explanation. Perhaps the blacksmith, upon getting suckered into buying such a dull blade (at that point in the game), got extremely angry and abandoned the item atop a nearby manure pile. Thus, you found your old Steel Witchers Sword next to some ginatea flowers.

Hahahaha! But seriously... kudos.
