I've never been able to get this game to not stutter on my system, even with my new SSD. Disabling page file and doing the prefetch thing has never worked.

What about your other specs, including OS? Also, you may be running at an accelerated speed and need to Powertools to get it running as close to the original 360 speed as possible.

3.2Ghz quad core, GTX 470, 8gb ram, SSD for OS drive and 7200RPM for games. And Win 7 64 bit. It just won't stop stuttering.

There was someone I helped a long while ago with an issue like that. We ended up fixing it by having him disable his Realtek HD surround and sound fx and ran straight up plain basic stereo sound.

I have no idea why that might work, but it definitely fixed it for him. It might be worth a shot.

"XP will never run the game well because it can't prefetch."

<---- Still maxes out the game anyways. HERP.

Well, which version are you using? v1.8 and the new v1.9 work a bit differently. Now I'm gong to ask a very obvious question. You did open and extract the archive, right? There's a readme included with detailed instructions on how to install it located in the archive. Was something in the readme unclear?

Thank you so much for this thread, and the Powertools. I have had some great times in co-op with a friend, thanks to its speed fix.
It's kind of wild that there is not an official fix for it. So, thank you.

I actually did something a little different than the instructions said to get Windows 7 to add SR2 to prefetch without needing a reboot.

Here's what I did:
1. Stop the Superfetch service (click the Windows orb/start menu. Type in services, run Services. Find Superfetch in the list. Right click on it and choose Stop).
2. Delete the contents of c:\windows\prefetch
3. Start the Superfetch service again
4. Ran Saints Row 2, and verified that SR2_PC.EXE-[blah blah].pf got added to c:\windows\prefetch\

Or.. I may have deleted the contents of prefetch, THEN stopped the service, and started it again. Still, it worked.

Ah crap..I totally looked over the readme file like an idiot because I thought it was just another file explaining how the cheats/phone number stuff works. Sorry for bothering you. lol

Hey IdolNinja, I downloaded and extracted the stopwatch save to tweak the speed like is suggested.

Problem is, the race icon isn't there.

Or, to be more specific, I see it flash briefly right when I load, and then completely disappear.

Any idea what's going on there?

That's really strange. I've never heard of anyone having that particular problem. You could try extracting and moving the included patch.vpp_pc file again in case you missed that step or something.

Or, you could try the new Powertools beta that attempts to autocalc the time sync. It seems to work for about half the people who try it:

Ah, yeah, looks like I got in too much of a hurry to install GotR and that botched it. Thanks!

That's not a common place to crash and nothing special happens there that would cause it. I would try to verify integrity on Steam. You could also skip the tutorial and go through the front to avoid it. You were pretty much at the end of the tutorial part anyway.
