Random Bsod

bc2. Some times I play for hours fine and others I get thsi random bsod with 0x124 and it has no bug string name. I'm going nuts, what causes it? All gfx drivers and such are up to date.

Hmm, the only thing that comes to mind is that maybe you want to check your computer's temperature while you are playing the game. If your components are burning up then maybe that is why.

I keep a log and it seems to only get to 64c. It maxes at 71c, so heat shouldn't be the issue. I am however waiting on receiving a CM Hyper 212+ so I can only hope that is the cause, because this will fix it.

try reverting to older gfx driver versions (btw what system specs?) or resetting gfx settings in control panel of your gfx card driver. also, you may want to look if lowering the resolution/settings ingame may help. what sound hardware do you have? there is a common issue with onboard sound which causes crashes/bsods/freezes ingame

My friend had this same issue. He discovered it was due to his RAM timings being overclocked. He set them to stock and it fixed his issues.

My ram is OC'd by a meer 20mhz. I'm not sure how to make it stock. My cpu is oc'd 2.8 > 3.4 and my ram is only supported by my board via OC to begin with (change ratio to 1:4) so I leave it at 1:3 and with my CPU OC it only gets to 1620mhz.

Specs

Phenom II x4 925 3.4ghz OC
DDr3 G.skill 1600mhz
radeon 4850 512mb (stock clocks)
MSI880GM-341 Mobo
600w cooler master extreme power.
w7 x64 ultimate.
Some Via HD audio integrated.

I'm not sure if 20mhz would cause that much of an issue. I don't think there is a way to really bring it back to stock speeds since I have to increase my FSB for the OC. or is there a way?

ok thats quite a bunch of oced stuff there. how do other games/programs perform?

to rule out sound issues reboot your pc, go into the bios, completely deactivate onboard sound (somewhere in integrated peripherals I assume) and start the game, keep playing till crashes occur to see if the sound hardware is causing your problem

Other games are fine except GTAiv bsod'd once the other day but it seems to be a first and last. I am driven to believe its heat related since both are intensive cpu, but I'm still not 100% on that. I have a amd gfx card and I know it too has had issues in the past. I increased my ram voltage a bit more to see if its just not getting the juice it wants. But its been happening once a day and my idle temps seem pretty low so my room cannot be all that hot.
