Exclamation If you are having problems running the game - READ THIS

Hi,

Make sure you have the following installed:

xna redistributable (xnafx31_redist.exe)
microsoft .net framework 3.5 (dotNetFx35setup.exe)

(seems that steam didn't autoinstall these with the demo)

They are actually included in the demo so navigate to:

c:\program\steam\steamapps\common\magicka demo\ - or wherever you have steam/game installed to and find the files.

That should resolve most problems.

Secondly make sure you're running the game on a computer with at least the following specs:
  • Operating system: Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7
  • Processor: Intel® Pentium® IV 2.4 GHz or AMD 3500+
  • Memory: 2 GB RAM
  • Hard disk space: 2 GB Available HDD Space
  • Video: NVIDIA® GeForce 8800 or ATI Radeon® X1900
  • Direct X-compatible sound card
  • DirectX® 9
  • 3-button mouse, keyboard and speakers
  • Internet connection for multiplayer
  • XNA 3.1

Let us know what else is acting up and we'll try to fix it asap.

Mine auto downloaded the files when I began the game, it seems to be a semi-rare bug.

What do you do if you have these installed yet the game will crash everytime it gets to the candle cinematic?
(plays the first 2 notes of the song and then the game just crashes/disapears, no errors come up it just stops working)

I just got the demo and I am not even able to start it up.
I have got all this stuff installed, I myself even use XNA so i have everything installed. Though even with that I am getting errors in Audio and also 2 of the 3 threads.

The audio one is referring to the unsafe methods.
There is also one in the LoaderThread where it is not getting the graphics device to init the font.
Lastly there is a texture that is too big being created in the RenderThread.

I had this problem as well. If you go into the directory the original poster mentions (i.e., %STEAM%\steamapps\common\magicka demo), you'll find a file called "dxwebsetup". Run that. My game ran fine afterward.

If that doesn't fix it, open up one of the "errorReport_..." files in the same directory and paste the contents here. In my case the error being reported was:
Quote:
System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.DirectX.DirectInput, Version=1.0.2902.0
Which is what led me to try running that dxwebsetup file.

Sorry to say that your graphics card is not supported/is below system requirements.

How big are the Particle Sheets?
Also it is worth noting that it is ContentDemo\EffectTextures\ParticlesC.xnb that is too large.

Hi, I have tried everything mentioned in this thread and more. I have cleaned up and replaced all of my .NET framework and XNA framework and redownloaded the game. I have run all of the files inside the directory and I still receive this error message as a text file:

Quote:
RenderThread
System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
at Magicka.Audio.AudioManager.Dispose()
at Magicka.Game.UnloadContent()
at Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Game.DeviceDisposing(Objec t sender, EventArgs e)

at Microsoft.Xna.Framework.GraphicsDeviceManager.Syst em.IDisposable.Dispose()
at Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Game.Dispose(Boolean disposing)
at Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Game.Dispose()
at Magicka.Program.Main(String[] args)
Can anyone interpret that better than I have? All I can tell is that it appears to be referencing missing files related to sound and graphics. Thanks in advance for any help

Specs:

Q6600 quad core
nVidia GTX260
Windows Vista home premium
6gb DDR2 RAM
