the official answer from some Valve guy was something like " it works like this because every dx/whatever is different so you need them for the game to run" or something like that...
so there's nothing you/we/they can do about it

I saw that, thank you, but I can't completely agree with him. Does anybody know where and what files Steam creates to ensure it already RAN all the installations?
For example, I ran the game for the first time, exited, then took the SteamApps folder and installed it on another computer, ran the same game again. Would it run all the bull♥♥♥♥ DX, PhysX etc. installations again?

What's even worse is that I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, which means that every time that the 2005 VC++ Runtimes are installed a whole bunch of temp files are created on my D-drive (which, admittedly, is Microsofts fault, but I'm getting sick of it anyway...).

But I learned to live with it, and after years of therapy I think I finally have it under control

That's not a question of time for me AT ALL. It annoys the hell out of me that it turns my system into a mess. I like it clean , that's a question of worldview, I guess. Somebody could care less if their system becomes more and more glitchy and slower with each installation (not much, to be honest), for some it's an annoyance.

This is th issue for me too.
Though I'm becoming accustomed to software traits and trails, it seems unavoidable. Sadly.

That too! It always creates a lot of files on totally random drive for it, IF I cancel it halfway thru installing.
What I found as a second solution to prevent them from running is exactly this: just cancel them all as soon as they pop (knowing that your system is already up to date in every possible respect).

That is a sad truth, my friend. Sooner or later your system gets clattered, no matter how hard you try to prevent this. Better later than sooner though! That's what we're looking for here.

I hate this too tbh.
There is a way to stop it but don't work with some of the games.

In the game folder try deleting the install.vdf file.
Most games have it and stops it,but there are games like sanctum that just puts them back again grrr.
