Doom 64 for PC

Hey if you guys loved the original Dooms, then you will love Doom 64, which came out for the N64. The original N64 version was nice, but it was WAYYY too dark [brightness settings I mean] and anyone who has played that game can attest to this fact.

Luckily for the gaming community at large, a group of people came out with Doom 64 Absolution, which is the same game, just with brightness.

All you need is Doom 2 and to follow the directions in the read me and you are ready to go!!

Here is a link to Doom 64 Absolution http://www.doom2.net/~doomdepot/abs-download.html

The Absolution was a TC where the author tried to recreate all the levels. It's mostly accurate. The man however is a Doom 64 nut, and has gone on to create an engine that literally uses a Doom 64 N64 rom to generate a wad, and with that you can play the game in near perfect accuracy.

Not the worst obsession I've ever heard of, but it's not unhealthy. Besides, the games are really fun to play.

I can't get Absolution to work with W7 x64 but the new ROM based port works fine. A little easy with mouse and keyboard so far though.

This is like saying "I'd rather play Ultimate Doom than Doom 2." Doom64 wasn't a port with modified maps and maybe a new map or two like all of the other console versions, it's an entirely new game.

That said, while the TC was a really nice piece of work back in the day, the PC port of Doom 64 ZeroSignal mentioned is a lot better:

Why all the hate for Absolution? Are the levels not as accurate as the .wad?

Why not just play it on an N64 emulator? *but only if you own the actual game*

Because the original game is WAYYYYYYYYYYYY to dark, even on emulators.

Thanks OP. Really enjoying this port. Doesn't look anything like my PC versions so it's a new game to me. Love the sound and feel of the shotties.

PS: Working perfect with Win7 64. Just wish I had a Hud. Then again maybe Doom64 didn't have one.

Not just the levels, the lighting and a lot of the deeper down stuff is wrong in the TC. It's not really hate; one of the people who made the TC also made the Doom64EX port. The latter is simply more accurate.

Mouse and keyboard controls and higher resolutions, plus the fact that even the N64 emulators get some things wrong compared to the actual hardware.

I just tried the other Doom 64 port, and it's not as smooth as The Absolution. There is that console lag it would seem. Meanwhile I get a smooth fps rate with TA.
