Just tried War Tapes. Must say you do get quite immersed. Is their an advantage from one or the other?

The Home Theater setting actually sounds best on my setup.

I find war tapes has the most immersive sound. Normally, that's what I use.
However, due to my headset breaking, I was forced to change it to headphones because I am playing on a stereo headset (g330). |

Hi-Fi, war tapes gets annoying after a while because it sounds like everything is muffled and TOO intense - my opinion anyways

from what i know. Hi-Fi only plays what really happens while wartapes have some fake helicopters flying around or some fake gunfire playing.
i choose hi-fi |

It's mostly up to personal preference. Footsteps and voice call-outs are easier to hear in Hi-Fi most of the time, I think. War Tapes puts too much extra sound that covers up the subtle stuff.

gfx quality > performance
wartapes > hifi otherwise my mid-highend rig and my 5.1 surround sound system would serve no real purpose |

I feel the same way. I like war-tapes, they make encounters feel a lot more intense, but on smaller maps where there's always combat going on around me it's too cacophonic.

War Tapes sounds like everything is amplified and just really loud; it's an audio overload. I generally use Headphones, because I play with a headset.

What annoys me in both modes is the metallic clanking sound. I'm not sure if this is a sound coming from you, or an ambient sound in the map, but even when standing still there's a sound like carabiners clanking against each other, and it makes me think a recon is sneaking up on me.

As I recall, wartapes just seemed to reverberate everything longer
