do people still play planetside: aftershock?

i got this game back around 2002 or so, but i had dial-up back then so needless to say it was rage-inducingly slow. i remember i was so jarateed with the connection speed that i never even renewed the subscription past the first month. i'm reinstalling it right now just for old time's sake, do people still play it? and do you still have to pay a subscription charge or have they removed that after, like, a decade?

Funny you should ask now, I just renewed my subscription.

People do indeed still play PlanetSide, Though not as many as there used to be (though you won't notice it too much, since there's only 1 server now).

There is still a subscription fee for PlanetSide ($15.00/month, pretty high, I know)

Yea, for an 8-year old game (that isn't WoW), $15/month is rather high.

Coulda sworn I heard talks about a sequel. Its crazy this game is still pretty active, especially considering the monthly price. Had soo much fun with it back in the day. Dropping from a ship with your buddies into enemy territory - epic.

i actually just looked it up on wikipedia. the planetside article says that SOE has in fact announced that theyre releasing a first person shooter in march 2011, and it was confirmed that it's going to be PlanetSide Next. as in, NEXT MONTH. crazy, huh?

I played a long time ago - it had to be around when it first released. I had such a crap computer that once I got into the large fights it went into meltdown.

I had been looking for a Tribes-esque game ever since that one. Planetside had that on a very large scale.

SOE will have to do more than just wow me with the next one, though. I've been burned by them way too much.
