Magicka Has Stopped Working.
When I try to start Magicka (from Steam or from the executable itself), nothing happens for about one to two seconds and then a window pops up saying "Magicka Has Stopped Working". There are no error reports in Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\magicka. There is an option for details, which states:
Description: Stopped working Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: Magicka.exe Application Version: 1.3.3.6 Application Timestamp: 4d498a5f Fault Module Name: KERNELBASE.dll Fault Module Version: 6.1.7600.16385 Fault Module Timestamp: 4a5bdbdf Exception Code: e0434f4d Exception Offset: 0000b727 OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.48 Locale ID: 1033 The dxdiag output is about 36k characters long, so if anybody really needs it, let me know if there's a particular part you'd need. Otherwise maybe I can pastebin it or something. Thanks! |

More justice bumps. It'd be great if a dev or support personnel or SOMETHING would respond.

I've just bought Magicka from Steam and downloaded to my computer. After I'd finished downloading Magicka on Steam, I tried to launch the game but unfortunately I couldn't because there was some crash report which prevented me to play that game.. and I searched about this problem everywhere but there wasn't any solution about it.
and my computer is NVIDIA GeForce 7025 / NVIDIA nForce 630a (256MB) AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ 2.60GHz 2GB Ram 32bit now that's the crash report that i see everytime when i try to launch game. Description: Stopped working Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: Magicka.exe Application Version: 1.3.3.6 Application Timestamp: 4d498a5f Fault Module Name: KERNELBASE.dll Fault Module Version: 6.1.7600.16385 Fault Module Timestamp: 4a5bdaae Exception Code: e0434f4d Exception Offset: 00009617 OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1055 |

I have the same problem, posted about it a while back and never got any good responses.. I've tried everything possible as a fix that I found in the forums, and nothing helped. I agree it would be nice to get some GOOD feedback from a dev or something, because this sucks. The game doesn't even generate an error report, I assume because it never gets to launch.

Possible Fix
I had the same problem, resulted from having the demo then buying the game (I am running Win 7x64).
Open computer. Type "Magicka" into the search. Wait for it to finish loading. Highlight everything and click delete. Open steam, go to library, remove local content. Redownload. Go to computer, c, program files (x86), steam, steamapps, common, magicka, dependencies, and run "xnafx31_redist". After that run "dotnetfx35" After those installed I was able to run. Hope it works for you guys. Sorry had to type this in a hurry. Good Luck, Have fun. |

I have the same problem and installing the XNA Framework did not do anything. I even tried removing local content and then reinstalling Magicka.
Also I am running Windows 7 x64 and had no problems with Magicka until a few days ago. wondering if maybe a windows update stuffed up .NET or XNA or something... Last edited by lokhor: 02-28-2011 at 12:14 PM. |

lokhor, have you also updated DirectX?
Also check your graphic card drivers, make sure they're up to date, and make sure your graphics card meets the minimum requirements (anything Intel won't, for starters) |

I am running Magicka through Steam and before a few days ago I had no problems. My issue now is that whenever I try to launch it the executable fails with the error Magicka has stopped working
No other information is provided and the Magicka steam folder has no error logs. Windows does have an error log however it does not provide much information. I have attached my DXDIAG info here: http://pastebin.com/3FfMPyWM and my error report here: http://pastebin.com/vhU3mLPp I have tried reinstalling the XNA thing and also deleting local content and redownloading the game in Steam but it has had no effect. |

I just tried running Magicka on my partner's PC across the network and had the exact same error occur. Thinking maybe there are corrupt files, but I have redownloaded the whole game since it started effing up.
Edit: I managed to get it working on the other PC after installing the XNA Redist. May try uninstalling and reinstalling that on my PC. Last edited by lokhor: 02-28-2011 at 09:02 PM. |
