Buy Portal 2 on PS3 and get pc, but can you gift the pc version in steam?
Hi,
I was wondering, when you buy the PS3 version and get the pc version for free, can you gift it to a friend on steam instead of keeping it? Then play with that friend cross-platform from pc to PS3? Or does that friend have to buy a steam version? I look forward to the reply, Thank you |

How I think it works is, you going to need to link YOUR steam account with your PSN and this way it will trigger Portal 2 appearing on your PC. But sure you prob can link your friends account and he will get it, but I dont know if you can unlink it then.....

No. It is linked to your steam account. If you gift it to a friend, then you won't be able to play at the same time as him.

I was actually wondering about this as well. I have a ps3 but I don't have any computer that comes close to being able to run portal 2. My friend has a gaming pc but no ps3. We were hoping to split the cost of the ps3 version and I would get the disc and he would get the steam version. I was wondering if this would cause any problems? Also he lives in the area so co-op wouldn't be a problem because we can just do local co-op.

They work under a shared license, so you can't run it on the PS3 and PC at the same time. Technically there's nothing stopping you from just giving the key to someone for their PC, but you won't be able to play it when they are. Oh, and you'd also need to trust them enough with your Steam Acc details, by the by. EDIT: Actually, isn't it against the Subscriber agreement to share accounts? This is something you'd be doing under your own risk, really Last edited by JayceM: 02-03-2011 at 03:32 PM. |

But we wouldn't be sharing accounts because I don't even have one. I'd just link the ps3 with his and call it good. And like I said we'll just do split screen co-op on the ps3.

Your PSN account is supposed to be linked to YOUR Steam account. If it isn't, then your sharing, whether you have a steam account or not.

No one knows the specifics of the Free PC version that comes with PS3 copies. All we know is that it involves linking your PSN account with Steam. I would still like to know if you can trade in the PS3 version and continue to play the free PC version.

Like others think... (I think :X ) The pc disk you get after buying it on the ps3 is linked to one another, so once you got your ps3 version linked up with the steam account, the pc version wouldn't be able to work on someone elses computer, except for your own steam account. So you wouldn't be able to play with one another.

yeah I think you would.. All you would do is, once you created a steam account on your ps3, you go on your computer, install steam, and log into your account from the computer, and you would see it.
