problem with Rome: Total War

So I downloaded the game because its great. I logged tens of hours on it before i went rooting through the options menu for...I dont even remember. Any how, I click on the video tab, then click ok. It appears like the games resolution changes and then the screen turns to black with audible game music. I have RTW:Gold and the BI expansion pack works fine but the Original Rome just loads with a black screen but the audio works fine. I guess I must have changed something but i have no idea what or how to change it back since I cant see anything when I load RTW.The game used to run just fine on low med settings on my HP mini netbook. Thanks a lot ahead of time for any help rendered.

You could go to the preferences file (default C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\rome total war gold\preferences\preferences.txt) and manually change the resolution in there to whatever worked for you before.

EDIT: Or you could just delete preferences.txt and the game should fix itself.
