EDGE: Crysis 2 Interview with Cevat Yerli.
Good, informative interview about what to expect from the PC version. Sounds promising.

It sounds like they wen't linear. When the question was asked, he basically dodged the question. He keeps talking about the PC Graphics being great but why hold back on how good they look so close to release? Why not build some hype and drop the bomb?

However they have acknowledged something, they couldn't push hardware this time. It's not like there isn't new technology to really push. Until Ray Tracing becomes a norm, you can only do so much with technology. I won't say you know they could of pushed the texture res and polycounts off the wall for an Enthusiast setting.. but it seems something was holding it back. I won't say though. :P |

I'm glad they aren't trying to push things too much this time. The reassuring part for me is that the game actually does sound like it could be challenging, fun and that I feel confident it will run nicely with all the bells and whistles turned on. |

This, and if it isn't advertised, far fewer people will know about it, so the temptation isn't there. Damage control and trying to be responsible.
I get the distinct impression that someone is being very malicious and doing their best to spread it around, because on a few sites I have seen exactly the same copy & paste post. |

1. Why they couldn't push the hardware this time? They certainly could. Although their pushing last time was almost totally pointless, since the only thing they really pushed is extreme texture res and extreme poly count. If you don't believe me just catch a stream with pix... 2. Why would Ray Tracing become norm? It's totally useless for almost anything other than reflections/refractions, which compose about 1% of an average scene. Let me get this straight, you're ready to sacrifice all advantages of raster techniques in order to render a few reflective/refractive surfaces without multipass or depth sorting? |
