So is it possible to play with a 360 controller if...

you have the "recharger cable" that comes with the battery packs for said controllers?

Meaning, I don't have wireless capability at this time (since I don't have charged batteries), and I don't have a 100% pure wired controller (since the cord lets you plug the controller in to the 360), but the computer can still recognize it and install the drivers for... something related to the controller.

I don't want to buy a USB receiver set or an entirely new controller, so I was just curious :|

I think you have to map all the keys and using some special software

The charge cable will not make you able to use the controller wired. if it is a wireless controller, it can only be used wirelessly, but still recharged with the play and charge cable.

I'm confused.
You either have a wired controller you can plug straight into your PC using a USB.

Or you have a wireless one that requires a receiver to work on the PC. Charging the batteries won't make it work on the PC without the reciever.

Are you trying to use the play and charge kit to play with the controller on the PC? If that even works. If so that could be dangerous, as once the batteries are charged and the light turns green you need to disconnect otherwise they might over heat and explode If you continue charging them which is what you would be doing leaving it plugged in. Once you disconnect the charger you no longer have a wired connection.

That charge cable does not enable "wired" play. It is just for charging. It does not carry the necessary connections to your USB to use the controller wired.

So just put as a clear statement...

The charging cable on a wireless controller does NOT let you use the controller as a wired controller.

Seriously? Every battery charging device I've had since like 2000 has circuitry to detect when the battery is fully charged and stops charging or switches to trickle charging if the device is on. If you seriously need to sit next to your XB360 controller and watch it charge then that is a COMPLETE FAIL on Microsoft's part.

I figured as much. There's no way Microsoft would be that stupid.

When the 360 with the charge kit is charging it's a red light.. After it's fully charged it turns green.

Right, but it doesn't OVERcharge, correct? You can leave it plugged in after it's green.

Correct. And, I have heard a single thing about 360 controllers blowing up.. That's the type of thing that makes the news.

Would make gaming more realistic though, right, right?

Though so far both my battery packs have lost functionality if they're not plugged in, so I'm not sure it stops charging them entirely once they hit 100% battery life.
