Gamestop Midnight Release?

Does anybody know if Gamestop will be hosting midnight launch parties for Portal 2? I Hope they will, seeing as it's a pretty big game and the sequel to a game will so many accolades...

Oh, and because Portal 2 is released on Passover and thus I'll be busy T.T

Why bother with that when you could just preload it like a day earlier and get to play it before the gamestop people?

I like a physical copy, plus the excitement of going to a midnight release. It's always more fun.

Agreed. I could buy off steam, but there's something about having a physical copy that I can't get over.

I know my local EB Games (a variation of Gamestop) is on an individual basis. If they get a certain number of pre-orders, they will do a midnight release. I think the magic number is 100. But i'm in a smallish town.

I remember my first "midnight" release. The Nintendo Wii. 6 am, Sam's Club opened up, we got in, first ones. My dad and mum, and I got it, so much fun.

Got bored after about 5 months, sold it, now proud owner of a PC and a 360 (For DJ Hero.)

I'm getting it for PS3. I'll install it on my PC for the sole purpose of level making; my PC isn't really good enough for Portal 2.

I want a midnight release. I'll be asking my Gamestop next time I go.

It's a shame that no company really took advantage of the new tech. I mean, just because the first games were tacky sports and fitness mini-games doesn't mean you have to produce exclusively that. The Kinect looks like it'll take a similar route, too.

Bah. That stuff is wasted on the consoles. Half of the playerbase couldn't care less about the possibilitys; they just want another get fit quick scheme. We're bloody lucky that companys like Valve are keeping the real creative spark alive.

I've never actually been to a midnight release. In fact, the only game I ever got the day it came out was The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. It sounds like fun, though. I have actually seen people camping out in front of stores in wait of a new release, namely the Nintendo Wii.

I've never been to a midnight release, because I've always had something I couldn't be up that late for (like school) the next day.

BUT, Portal 2 comes out over my Spring Break. So I WIN!

You know, having recently gone to a midnight release for the 3DS*, I'm sort of failing to see the apeal of them. About 14 people showed up in the otherwise deserted shopping center, and the highlight of the evening was seeing a fox in the empty car park outside. It was a nice fox though, I guess.

*which is, by the way, fantastic

Did you engage in conversation with your peers? Oh well. Guess not. Personally, I was throughly entertained by the people waiting with me for the Wii. You meet interesting people when you're all waiting desperately for the same thing. I assure you somewhere, two people are going to meet at a midnight event for Portal 2 and end up being co-op buddies.

Coincidently I was a Gamestop today and asked the nice lady working. I have already purchased Portal 2 on Steam, but I also preorderd the game in full at Gamestop as a gift for a friend since I had $50 worth of credit that I haven't used (since I get all my PC gaming fix on steam).

She said she wasn't sure, although she said it would be more likely that they would do a Mortal Kombat midnight release, in which you could go pick up your copy of Portal 2 then.

Midnight releases are only as fun as you make them. Its like going to a lan party and not talking to anyone. Was it worth it? Of course not. Use these occasions to get out of your shell and talk to people, maybe even a girl
People wear costumes to game release's and movie openings because there out going and are taking the first step towards talking to people about something they both like or one them wouldn't be there.
Chance encounters sometimes lead to life long friendships especially when a common interest is already there. Makes it easy to just blurt some thing out that everyone around you can identify with and comment on themselves. Its why people gather normally except when complete geeks are involved and really only want the game before the next guy, lol.

I remember at San Diego Comic Con, it felt like one massive awesome friendship fest because everyone was a geek, just like you. :]
