Adding Custom resoltuion to AMD Catalyst/Windows 7
Hi,
I have a Dell U2410, which I know can support 1440x900 as I have used that setting when connecting to a Mac and another PC. However on my new Windows PC there is no option in Display settings or in AMD Catalyst Control Centre (version 11.2). As it is a 16:10 resolution and I am using a 16:10 monitor it would be useful to have this option available in games, which it is not. Does anyone know how I can add this to resolution. At the moment when selecting resolutions, the only 16:10 resolution are 1920x1200, 1680x1050 then a huge drop to 1280x800 completely missing 1440x900. Any help would be great My setup is: Windows 7 x64 Ultimate AMD 6850 AMD Catalyst Control Centre 11.2 |

Yeah, I get the same thing with a GTX 570 and a Dell 2407WFP. It has to do with the monitor inf file in Windows and the supported resolutions. Play around with the settings in the driver and you'll figure it out.

Hi, do you know where I could find the monitor inf file, I a not really that familiar with Windows drivers (mainly been using Macs for past 8 years) Last edited by rotNdude: 02-20-2011 at 03:09 PM. Reason: learn how to use the multi-quote feature |

You don't want to mess with the inf file. What you want to do is set up a custom resolution in the driver.

*UPDATE*
I have solved this issue without third party software. If you are using an AMD GFX. -First go to AMD catalyst and look under Information, then Software. -Look for the 2D Driver Path. Make a note of the Path as you'll need it later. -Go to start menu search for RegEdit -Open Regedit as Administrator (You must open as admin otherwise regedit will not save changes). -Open the folder as described in the 2D driver path. -Look for a registry file in that folder called DALNonStandardModesBCD2 click Modify then add your chosen custom resolution to the list. (Mine was for 1440x900 14 40 09 00 00 00 00 60 - the last two digits denote refresh rate) -Exit Regedit -Reboot -Check Windows display and Catalyst Control to see your new resolution |

1440x900 is a 16:9 resolution. Are you sure your monitor supports it? Running at unsupported resolutions is not a good idea.
Not only that but using a small resolution is an incredible waste of an IPS monitor. Get a Display port cable and enjoy some eyefinity. |

On a similar line here, I'm using a Samsung monitor (1920x1080) but when I use the HDMI cable to connect the screen has a black box around the edge, making everything compressed and blurry...
Any ideas how to remove the black lines and make it full screen via HDMI? |
