There are achievements, they're not secret. Steam added them reasonably recently. The PC version didn't have them until that point. (I may merely be thinking of hl2, I generally don't play for achievements in any game so I don't keep up on it.)

Those aren't secret. They're contradictory - so you can only have one or the other, but not both.

I can't do achievements but I always thought you could do both. Like bounce it off his head first then after he chases you around for a while pick it up and put it in the trash can. Oh well, you learn something new every day.

Just do it on two separate playthroughs. That's what I did.

I like Ep1 - a lot - but I think it's Valve's weakest effort to date. I have a number of issues with it.

Not quite correct. You can't do both at the same time, but you can get both by simply reloading the last checkpoint.

Hm, really? I was under the impression that they were contradictory entirely, that you could only have one or the other based on what you'd last done. Like a toggled achievement.

>_> apparently, I suck at managing to hit the combine AND get the can in the trash on one throw.

Like what? Personally I think ep 1 & 2 outshine HL2 in every way. Much more focused stories and you're not alone all the time.

Ep1 is definitely my fav of the entire saga, the gameplay is just outstanding. Yes, it's damn short, but the simil-co-op with Alyx are the best moments, and I enjoyed much more the 2 hours of Ep1 than the 5-6 hours of Ep2.
