Canceled the first time set up by accident

for Total War: Shogun 2, and now it just goes straight to launching the game. Is this something I should be concerned with? I doubt this is related, but the game seem a little too laggy even for my computer, on medium settings.

I'm running on:
Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26Ghz
4 GB RAM
GeForce 9800M GS

Anything I can do to make the game run a bit more smoothly?

My computer handles other resource demanding games just fine.
