Black Ops Crashes My PC
I've read up on this a bit, but can't find anything that's helped me, yet, and I've been advised to post on here!
I loaded black ups the other day, finding it wouldn't work, and on using an online system scanner, found my processor (Dual core E4400) wasn't up to scratch, so I have upgraded (E6750) it to suit! All drivers are up to date! When playing single player, the opening video is very stuttery, then I get a black screen for a long period (sometimes it crashes to desktop or a forced reboot here) and I get to them chatting in the bar... I get as far as the front door (so I'm playing by now) and then the screen either freezes, I get a "fatal error" in a dialogue box, or I get a forced reboot! I'm running an ATI Radeon HD4670 1gb if that matters? I've managed to play about half a round in multi player before it crashed, and my PC plays MW2 flawlessly! Any help you guys can offer would be hugely appreciated, but you're gonna need to dumb it down for me... This sort of thing REALLY isn't my strong point! lol Thanks! |

Multiplayer was crashing randomly for me every 15 minutes too. I found a working fix here in the forums, so why not you try it too:
Go to the players directory where you have BO installed (for a typical installation it's Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\call of duty black ops\players\). There, open config_mp.cfg with notepad. Hit ctrl+f, type in: seta r_multithreaded_device "0" press enter. You will see some the aforementioned line highlighted. Change the "0" at the end of it to "1". Exit notepad, saving the file. That removed the crashes for me, mostly (it only crashes once every say 5 hours of play now). Hope I helped.

You must have never been to any other game forums then. In every one of them, there are guys that say it's broke and works for no one. This game is no different. It works fine for most. And as in every other forum, all problems are blamed on the game, when 99% of them are user errors. |

I'll be honest, no, I've not. Never had need to... I didn't say there never had been, I said I've never known!
...Not everyone is a PC genius! I'm a noob through and through! I have no idea what I'm doing with a PC... I know how to put one together, but I need to be told what to buy, what's compatible etc, but as far as the game goes, all I've done is install it and it hasn't worked! My computer is all up to date, so it SHOULD work... IMO there shouldn't be so many people having user errors! There's obviously a big problem if a game has to be "modified" before it can be played! Cheers for the help and replies so far! I'll try re-installing it, for the third time!
