PC Crash // Black screen // Same place // Chapter 1

my PC:

HP Windows 7 laptop
intel core i5 2.4ghz cpu
4096 mb ram
ATI Mobility Radeon 5650 w/latest drivers (downloaded and installed yesterday)

it will crash as soon as i enter this room in chapter 1:

sometimes it happens BEFORE i get to that room, but i never get past it either way.

frozen game +/- 10 seconds, then black screen, computer completely unresponsive. tried many graphics settings and still no dice.

ideas?
